From 4 May, Webflow will begin migrating all websites from the Legacy Editor, which you currently use, to a new system called 'Client Seats'.
Change is rarely welcomed, but this introduces several important improvements to Webflow and introduces powerful new capabilities.
While many of the advanced features will primarily benefit larger organisations, the new system will make websites easier to manage and far more flexible in the future.
Until now, you have accessed your website editor by adding /?edit to the end of your website address. This familiar login and interface will be permanently retired on 4 August.
From 4 May, Webflow will invite each existing Editor to create their own Webflow account. During the three-month transition period, both the old and new systems will work side by side.
It is strongly recommended that you activate your new Webflow account as soon as you receive your invitation and begin familiarising yourself with the new interface well before the Legacy Editor is removed.
One immediate benefit is convenience. If you are involved with several Webflow websites, they will all appear inside a single dashboard, removing the need to log in and out of individual projects.
Webflow’s new system introduces three different Client Seat roles, each with different permissions.
This will be the default role and most closely matches what you can do today. You will still be able to edit existing content and manage CMS items such as blog posts, testimonials, or team members.
This new lower-tier role allows team members to review the website and leave comments directly in the Webflow area. This is ideal for internal approvals or feedback, without the risk of accidental changes.
This is the most powerful role and introduces an exciting new capability. It allows Marketers to build entirely new pages - using the professionally designed sections already built into their website.
Previously, the Legacy Editor required a CMS Hosting Plan.
The new 'Client Seats' system removes this restriction. This means that if your website only contains static pages and does not use CMS features such as blogs, testimonials, or product listings, it may be possible to downgrade to the lower-cost Basic Hosting Plan at your next renewal.
This change represents a significant improvement in how Webflow websites are managed. While there will be a short adjustment period, the new system offers:
I will, of course, continue to support you through the transition and am happy to advise on the most suitable setup for your organisation.
