A little about Rugby Web Design and my journey so far.
About Rugby Web Design
Based in Rugby, Warwickshire, I provide an affordable web design service for small businesses and start-ups who are looking for a professional online presence.
I aim to bridge the gap between a 'Do It Yourself' website and a premium design agency. Whilst my services are considerably cheaper than a design agency, I pride myself in providing my clients with the same quality and service.
How do I do this?
- Project build times are dramatically reduced because I build using Webflow.
- Webflow allows me to design and develop a website, removing the need to hire expensive 'coders' to turn visual ideas into a working website.
- I work from my home office, which means my overheads are minimal when compared to larger office-based studios.
Throughout my career, I have always been involved in art and graphic design, working in a variety of mediums.
I began my working life in the artwork department at an Oxford print/publishing company. Whilst working there I gained my qualifications at the Berkshire College of Art & Design.
Following the closure of the company, I took a new direction into the pub trade. My artistic skills were quickly put to use and soon found myself in demand as a freelance blackboard artist. Initially I was producing artistic chalk menus and info boards. The blackboard work developed further into traditional sign-writing, hand-painting traditional signs for pubs, shops and other businesses.
Eventually, I began running my own pub/restaurants, developing a good understanding of the many challenges of running a business.
It was whilst running my pub/restaurant business that I saw the early development of the internet. Realising the new opportunities, I built my own website and soon had my 'regulars' asking me to build them a website for their businesses too.
I left the pub trade in 2008 and began developing my web design business. Today I'm working full-time at my home office in Rugby Warwickshire.
Although my 'better-half' reckons I'm addicted to technology, at heart I'm a bit of an old fuddy-duddy. I love real ales and the bygone age of steam railways.
I used to play the guitar in a number of live bands. Whilst my gigging days are long over, I still enjoy playing my guitar at home.
